Hyperpigmentation is a patch or dark spot that occurs on the skin which is caused when too much pigment has been released on the skin. Hyperpigmentation is considered to be a common condition. It is caused when melanocytes, which are overactive skin cells, stimulate the production of melanin, which in turn gives your skin a darker color. Not considered to be a serious problem, hyperpigmentation often makes ladies, and some gents, feel uncomfortable with the physical cards that they have been dealt.
There are several reasons that hyperpigmentation occurs. Exposure to the sun is the most common reason for the melanocytes to overact. Besides being at risk for skin cancer, sun worshipers should be aware that exposing their skin to ultraviolet rays stimulates melanocytes, which in turn produces additional melanin to darken the skin to help protect it from the burning rays of the sun. Years ago, it was unclear as to what the risk of sunbathing was. Now we know that exposing skin to UV rays will result in hyperpigmentation…otherwise known as freckles and age spots. Sun exposure can cause additional freckles or make any spots darker and more noticeable at any moment in time.
You can avoid freckles, age spots, and other hyperpigmentation issues by using Jan Marini’s Age Intervention Englighten from Skin Gift. This amazing skin care product will brighten and help to even out your skins color.

If you are 40 years old or older, you most likely enjoyed your younger years basking in the sun without a care in the world. Trips to the seaside, lake, or backyard pool were likely the mainstay of your summertime vacation fun. If you’re over 40 years old, it’s highly unlikely that you knew much information about applying any type of sunscreen to protect your skin. If you are female, there’s a good chance that you used baby oil (gasp!) to obtain that perfect summertime glow!
So now that you are over 40 years old, your skin is paying the price for the sins of yesteryear! Countless hours basking in the sun has likely left your skin with “liver spots”, otherwise known as “sun spots”. You can find these brown-black spots on your face, shoulders, back, forehead, back of your arms, and back of the hands.
Now is the time to fight back against those unsightly liver spots with the Obagi Nu-Derm Sunfader. This amazing formula will lighten freckles, age and liver spots, and provides SPF protection from the sun’s harmful rays too. Skin cells give your skin color by releasing a substance called melanin. When your skins cells become unhealthy or damaged, the melanin production is affected. Sometimes the pigmentation of your skin is affected in patches and other times, your entire body is affected, depending on the pigmentation disorder that you have.
When your body produces too much melanin your skin will become darker, which is called Hyperpigmentation. Exposure to the sun will darken skin that is already Hyperpigmented. Other conditions such as Addison’s disease and pregnancy can cause Hyperpigmentation. If your body produces too little melanin your skin become lighter in color, which is called Hypopigmentation. Lightening of the skin can be caused by blisters, burns, trauma, or infection. Vitiligo or Albinism are also causes for Hypopigmentation.
In today’s world of beauty queens, glamour magazines, and Hollywood celebs, it’s no wonder that the change in appearance caused by pigmentation problems can affect a person’s emotional and psychological well-being, especially for women.

Visiting the ocean is delightful because of its sand, surf, seashells, and the bronze tan that we often receive. But did you know that the excessive sun that you receive is responsible for most of the sun damage that is associated with premature aging of the skin? Sun damage does not appear quickly. Instead it sneaks up on you slowly over a period of time.
Skin care experts agree that sun damaged skin can manifest itself in many different ways. Some damage from the sun can be cosmetic and at other times it can cause more serious damage.
Damage from the sun can cause:
• Uneven pigmentation
• Damage to darker skin
• Liver spots or age spots – sometimes in very large numbers
• Labial lentigo – a dark brown spot on the lower lip
• Solar elastosis – vertical creases, deep wrinkles, and loose or sagging skin
• Melasma – a brown darkening of the facial skin
• Poikiloderma – Irregular areas of reddish-brown pigmentation on the neck or cheeks
• Solar Keratoses – rough, scaly raised patches of skin on the face, ears, hands and lower arms of fair skinned people. Could progress to skin cancer if not treated.
• Lentigo maligna – starts as a dark flat spot but continues to grow larger
• Skin cancer
Skin Gift has many products from top manufacturers like Obagi, iS Clinical, and Jan Marini that will help care for sun damaged skin. Our Skin Care Consultants can help you find the perfect lightener, hydrating solution, sunscreen, serum, or wrinkle reducing product to help combat the damage done by the sun’s harmful rays.
