Avoiding Eye Wrinkles

eye-creamYes, it’s true, at some point in time; we all are going to age.  Wrinkles on your face and other parts of your body are a sign of aging.  Most people, especially woman, don’t particularly care for the fact that eye wrinkles are a part of their future, despite the fact that everyone does indeed get older.  Wrinkles around your eyes tend to stand out worse than they do on other parts of your face or body because people are constantly looking into your eyes when they speak to you…as opposed to say…your elbow.

It could be helpful to know how eye wrinkles form so that you can avoid allowing them to occur in the first place.  In the eye area, the skin tissues must use and retain a good deal of moisture. The middle layer of skin (dermis) keeps the skin looking wrinkle free because it holds collagen.  The dermis sends collagen to elastin fibers which then stretches the epidermis. Over time, the dermis loses the ability to hold collagen which caused the skin to pull downward causing sagging and wrinkles.

In addition to the natural reasons for eye wrinkles, here are a few more damaging factors:

• Excessive exposure to the sun.

• Excessive facial expressions: frowning, squinting, smiling, etc.

• Smoking

It’s a great idea to start taking care of your skin before any damage has begun, but it’s never too late to begin a good skin care regime. Obagi’s ELASTIderm Night Cream will boost collagen production and replenish elastin so that you will experience less wrinkles and look and feel younger!

Caring For Your Lips Will Keep Them Kissable!

pure-glossYou only have one set of lips so don’t forget to take good care of them.  Good lip care should always be part of your daily lip care regime.  Lip skin is very sensitive and tender with three to five cellular layers.  Not having any sebaceous glands, lips will dry out faster than other skin and become chapped more easily.  Additionally, as part of the aging process, lips tend to shrink and thin.

Here are a few tips to keep your lips looking young and healthy:

• Just like with other parts of your body, dry skin causes wrinkles, so it’s important to keep your lips well hydrated.

• Exfoliating dead skin will help generate new soft skin.

• Protect your lips from UVA/UVB rays by using lip balm with SPF.

• Natural remedies for your lips include: honey as a natural moisturizer, lemon to remove dark spots on your lips, and Vitamin E oil or almond oil to reduce lip lines and add moisture.

As we age, without proper lip care, the signs of aging will begin to show quickly upon your lips.  Having plump healthy pink lips will help take years off of your appearance.  Jane Iredale has many lip care products that will help keep your lips beautiful and healthy looking.  Stop by Skin Gift to check our Jane Iredale Lip Drink Lip Balm, Just Kissed – Lip Plumper, Sugar & Butter Lip Exfoliator, and Pure Gloss in a variety of beautiful shades.

Beware…Dry Skin Will Be Here Before You Know It

age_intervention_face_cream_thumbBefore you know it, winter will be upon us, and for many people, harsh winters bring…dry skin.  Dry skin can be a typical occurrence, especially during the winter months.  Despite its normalcy, dry skin can be both uncomfortable and unsightly.  When skin loses hydration, normally plump skin cells will shrivel and create fine lines and wrinkles which make your skin look old and sagging.

If you are suffering from dry skin issues you could notice some of these:

• Tight feeling skin
• Skin that appears shrunken
• Rough looking skin
• Flaking, peeling, or scaling skin
• Fine lines or cracks
• Redness
• Deep cuts
• Itching

Most dry skin issues are caused by the environment that our skin is exposed to.  The winter months are the hardest months for your skin to maintain moisture levels because the humidity in the air is the lowest.  If you suffer from existing skin conditions, they are often exasperated during the winter months as well.  Central heating, space heaters, fireplaces, and wood-burning stoves zap the air of humidity and will dry your skin out even more.

Hot baths and showers will also quickly dry your skin out as will using harsh soaps and deodorants.  Sun exposure is a well-documented problem as the damaging ultraviolet rays cause harm to each layer of the skins surface.

Skin care experts agree that dry skin can be avoided by protecting your skin every day.  Stop by Skin Gift to see the many products we have in stock to help avoid itchy painful dry skin issues this winter season.

The Truth About Skin Cancer, Part 2 Of 2

Continuing from Tuesday…

• Squamous cell carcinoma – is also considered a non-melonoma skin cancer.  People who have light colored skin or those who have been sun worshipers are likely to be afflicted by this type of cancer.  It is more common for men to have squamous cell carcinoma than women.  The most common reason for this type of cancer to occur is excessive sun exposure in younger years.  People often develop squamous cell carcinoma precancerous or cancerous lesions decades after the sun exposure has stopped.  Unlike basal cell carcinomas, this type of skin cancer can spread to other areas of the body, so proper diagnosis and treatment is crucial.

• Melanoma – is the most serious type of skin cancer because it is known to spread to other areas of the body, eventually causing death.  It is estimated that about 50,000 American’s are diagnosed with melanoma each year.  As with all types of suspected skin cancers, you should always seek medical help at the first sign of any lesion, rash, mole, etc.

It’s important to protect your skin from the suns harmful UVA and UVB rays every day of the year.  Wearing Jane Iredale Mineral Make-up provides excellent sun protection.  When venturing out for day of fun in the sun, don’t forget to protect your body with IS Clinical’s Tinted Sunscreen.  This broad-spectrum sunscreen will give you a splash of color and full protection from harmful rays.
