Face Cleansing 101

Filed under: Acne, Clarisonic, Skin Care Tips — Tags: , — Skin Expert @ 5:35 am

It may seem like a simple thing, but washing your face is an important first step to treating your skin.  The type of cleanser you choose and what you wash your face with can help make all your skincare products work better for you.

The first thing to consider is your skin type and condition.  Your skin type may be oily, normal, combination, or dry.  You may be dealing with certain conditions such as acne or rosacea.  Most skin types should use warm not hot water to wash with, although rosacea will benefit from cool water.  What you wash your face with is also important.  If you use your hands make sure you wash those first.  If you are using a washcloth, consider the fact that millions of bacteria may be growing in that soggy cloth.  A better choice would be the Clarisonic Skin Care Brush or the Clarisonic Mia Brush.  The Clarisonicbrushes brush removes six times more makeup, oil, and dead skin cells than a washcloth, and uses sonic energy to deep clean gently.  Lines, roughness, uneven tone, and acne are all improved with the Clarisonic skin care brush and it is still gentle enough for those with rosacea.  Use SkinMedica’s Skin polisher with the Clarisonic Plus to exfoliate the rough dead skin that builds up on the epidermis for a healthy glow.

The next step is choosing your cleanser.  If you are oily or acne-prone you need ingredients to treat your skin to remove excess oil effectively.  Sometimes you should wash twice in order to effectively remove all the oil.  If you notice that your cleanser is not foaming up, finish cleansing then dry and start again. Obagi Nu-Derm Products such as CLENZIderm MD daily foaming cleanser will gently remove dirt and oil while treating acne breakouts.  This product uses 2% salicylic acid to kill bacteria and menthol to keep the skin calm.  SkinMedica’s Acne Treatment Foaming Wash is another good option with its fast acting formula that uses anti-bacterial ingredients to treat acne and reduce irritation leaving the skin clean and awake.

Dry, sensitive, irritated skin, or those with rosacea need very gentle cleansers so they don’t strip the skin of the protective acid mantle.  Obagi’s CLENZIderm MD Daily Care Cream Cleanser is a gentle, non-soap formulation that leaves your skin soft and clean.  Willow bark, licorice root, and lavender calm irritation and redness.

Normal and combination skin types need effective cleaning while keeping their PH balanced.  Obagi Nu-Derm Foaming Gel and Gentle Cleanser gently removes dirt, oil, and makeup while correcting the PH balance of the skin.  This product is excellent for normal to oily skin.  IS Clinical’s Cleansing Complex a favorite for skincare for Men because it contains glycolic and salicylic acids to remove oil from tougher skin types without causing dryness?

Learning the proper way to cleanse is the first step in proper skin care.  Proper tools such as the Clarisonic and an Obagi cleanser provide skin ready to receive other products to effectively treat and maintain beautiful and healthy skin.
